History
The Galaxie 500 series was the top trim level for 1963 and included chrome 'A' pillar moldings, two horizontal chrome strips on the side, one at the feature line and another shorter one beginning at the front door and going to the back of the car where it swept upand merged with the upper strip. Between the two chrome strips, just in front of the tail lights, were cast 'hash' marks.

A lower, fastback roofline was added mid-year to improve looks and make the big cars more competitive on the NASCAR tracks with the added down force. The 1963 1/2 model, the industry's first official '1/2 year' model, was called the 'Sports Roof' or 'Fastback'. Although much of the redesign to the Galaxie body style was carried over, the most significant change is in the roof, which is a full two inches lower than the previous model year. Coupled with the elegant downward slope to the trunk lid and a new window, factory wind-tunnel testing produced a cleaner airflow of 23 percent; perfect for on-track results. A concave grille greets the oncoming air, flanked by dual headlamps at each end, all over a massive, yet tasteful front bumper. Fender ornaments--shared with the rest of the Galaxie family--are gracefully located near the leading edge.
